Thermapen MK4 (red)

May 31, 2016

WOW! I love the Thermapen MK4. I have purchased 3 flip style probe thermometers in the last year, and they all work exactly the same. One was from Wal-Mart, one was from Academy Sports, and the third one was a Thermapen "competitor" from Amazon. They all take 10 or more seconds to stabilize on a temperature, and if going from one extreme to the other it takes longer. They are also impossible to read at an angle or in low light. Then there is the Thermapen... NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

It is as close to instant read as it can get. By the time I remember to check the read out, it is already displaying the proper temperature. It comes on when you pick it up and the back light is automatic.

It also rotates automatically so you can get to any part of the meat or take the temperature from different angles. It is easy to see why all of the competitive BBQ cooks only use a Thermapen.

Cons: None really. It is expensive ($99) but you get what you pay for and it easily outperforms any of the less expensive options.
